The Passport Ranking Index uses a detailed approach to analyze and compare passports globally. Through a thorough examination of the visa requirements and policies imposed by different destinations, a total of 199 passports are ranked in hierarchy order. This number represents countries and territories that issue their own passports.

The classification is based mainly on the number of destinations that passport holders can access without needing a visa, considering a total of 229 places. These destinations include countries and territories that have independent passport systems. Furthermore, it is relevant to highlight that 31 territories are considered that, although they do not issue their own passports, are included in the evaluation as destinations. This approach allows for a full assessment of the strength of each passport and the extent of travel freedom they provide.

The Guide Passport Ranking Index methodology is developed according to the following points:

Constant monitoring and updates: Changes in visa policies are continuously monitored. The passport ranking is updated rapidly to reflect changes in the number of visa-free destinations.

Thorough analysis of visa requirements: Visa criteria for passport holders from all issuing countries and territories (199 in total) are studied in detail, applying data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), together with information from Relevant government websites and other official and reliable sources on visas, for short-term travel, whether for tourism or business, to each of the 229 destinations around the world.

Classification of destinations: Based on the information available on the visa policies and requirements of each destination, these are associated with passports, organized into five fundamental categories:
